Audi’s entry-level sedan is fully redesigned for 2022, appearing to make strides in luxury and technology over the outgoing car. The exterior is unmistakably Audi, but adopts a design approach that’s more curvaceous and sculpted than the line-driven previous look. The interior rework is more significant, becoming thoroughly modern and tech-centric to align with Audi’s higher-end cars.
There’s a little more headroom, too. The list of driver-assist technologies expands, and more premium materials will be offered. Expect turbocharged I-4 engines under the hood, with the S3 and RS3 to return in the coming years, along with potential electrified powertrains.
Some entry-level luxury cars rely on their badge to succeed, but the new Audi A3 appears to offer trim and tech worthy of its four rings. Compared to the previous model, the A3’s cabin is less stark and more sophisticated, with layered trim surrounding impossible-to-miss infotainment displays.
Available faux suede, quilted leather upholstery, and ambient lighting resemble what you find in much more expensive Audis. Even if the engines available for 2022 are similar to the outgoing model’s, the new A3’s sharp duds and details should make it a more convincing luxury item.
