2024 Acura ZDX: A Strong Start, But Can It Compete on Everyman Driver

Acura’s first all-electric SUV, the 2024 ZDX, brings a lot to the table with its blend of luxury, performance, and modern tech. Available in both single- and dual-motor configurations, the ZDX targets efficiency and power. The single-motor version delivers up to 313 miles of range, making it a great option for those prioritizing range. Meanwhile, the dual-motor, especially in the high-performance Type S trim, offers 499 horsepower but sacrifices some range for speed and agility, making it Acura’s most powerful SUV ever.

Performance and Range:
The ZDX boasts a 102 kWh battery across all trims, providing up to 313 miles on the rear-wheel-drive A-Spec and 278 miles on the performance-oriented Type S. Charging from 20% to 80% takes around 42 minutes on a DC fast charger, and the Type S zips to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. While it’s fast and powerful, the ZDX’s range lags behind competitors like the BMW iX and Cadillac Lyriq.

Interior and Space:
While the ZDX’s interior is spacious, comfortably seating five adults, it lacks the third-row option found in rivals like the Kia EV9. It’s clear that Acura is aiming for luxury, but the materials used in the cabin fall short compared to the premium feel of the BMW iX or Genesis Electrified GV70. On the plus side, the cabin is quiet, the seats are comfortable, and cargo space is ample, with up to 63 cubic feet in the A-Spec model.

Tech and Safety:
The ZDX debuts Acura’s first full Google integration, offering features like EV route planning and hands-free Google voice commands. However, the 11.3-inch infotainment screen is smaller than those of competitors like the Cadillac Lyriq and Rivian R1S. Safety-wise, the ZDX comes loaded with AcuraWatch, which includes lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning.

Verdict:
The 2024 Acura ZDX is a solid entry into the luxury electric SUV market. It offers a comfortable ride, modern features, and strong performance, especially in the Type S trim. However, its interior quality, limited third-row seating, and relatively short range leave room for improvement. While it’s a good option for those seeking a mix of power and comfort, rivals like the BMW iX and Kia EV9 offer more in terms of luxury and practicality.
