2024 Toyota Sequoia Review (Video) on Everyman Driver

In its second year since a major redesign, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia stands as a formidable full-size SUV, blending rugged capability with modern style. Setting itself apart from the crossover crowd, the Sequoia shares its sturdy underpinnings with the Toyota Tundra full-size truck, delivering a robust frame, multiple suspension options, and ample power under the hood. While the previous V8 engine option is no longer available, the standard twin-turbo V6 impresses with 437 horsepower and competitive fuel efficiency. Utilizing a hybrid system, the Sequoia incorporates an electric motor that adds a noticeable boost of torque to the driving experience. Handling gear changes is a seamless 10-speed automatic transmission, and for off-road enthusiasts, four-wheel-drive models feature a two-speed transfer case for precise control during slow off-road adventures. For those seeking even greater off-road capabilities, the TRD Off-Road package is on offer, while the TRD Pro version takes things to the next level with a fully retuned suspension, slow-speed crawl control, and rugged off-road tires.

Inside, the Sequoia offers practicality and comfort across lower trim levels, with the flagship Capstone trim elevating the luxury quotient with leather seats and genuine wood trim. All Sequoia models come with three rows of seating, while higher-level trims provide second-row captain’s chairs instead of a bench seat. The Sequoia benefits from Toyota’s latest infotainment technology, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The focal point of the cabin is a 14-inch display screen, standard on all but the base SR5 trim. Safety remains a top priority, with all Sequoia models equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety technologies, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot assist.

While the Chevrolet Tahoe offers a lower starting price, it lacks a hybrid engine option. The Ford Expedition also boasts a lower entry point in terms of price, while the Nissan Armada comes in at a more budget-friendly price point, albeit with a less impressive interior and a less refined ride. The 2024 Toyota Sequoia competes in a niche category of full-size SUVs that excel in versatility. Following a complete redesign last year, the Sequoia has emerged as a modern, luxurious, and tech-savvy option. Notable rivals include the Ford Expedition, which shares a turbocharged V6 engine, three rows of seating, and multiple trim levels, as well as the Chevrolet Tahoe with its spacious interior, abundant features, and available V8 power. The Nissan Armada rounds out the competition, offering V8 performance, a comfortable cabin, and impressive towing capabilities.

What’s New for 2024: The 2024 Sequoia introduces two notable changes. Platinum trim models equipped with four-wheel drive can now opt for the TRD Off-Road package. Additionally, a new Nightshade package, featuring dark exterior accents, is available for the Limited trim level. Following last year’s comprehensive redesign, the Toyota Sequoia continues to assert itself as a formidable full-size SUV, combining strong performance, cutting-edge technology, and a highly functional interior, making it an exceptional choice for families seeking a versatile all-around vehicle.
